Downham Market Science Day (Year 6) - 15th March 2017

Year 6 children from Wormegay and Runcton Holme attended the Science Day at Downham Market Academy.

The day began with a visit to the Science Lab to test different substances for alkaline or acid content using universal indicator.  The children were very excited with the colours caused by the reaction.

Next we visited the gym where there was a planetarium set up.  We all went inside and laid down to watch the planets and a film about the International Space Station.

The RAF had provided a STEMs (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) activity which involved building a structure to a certain specification using the equipment provided.  Although this was challenging the results were very impressive.

Finally there was a session of rocket building. The children designed and built their own rocket and tested it out on the launch pad.  This was competitive towards the end to see whose could fly the furthest.

A very busy and very enjoyable day with lots of good team work.  Well done everyone.
