School Bats - October 2016

It’s official – we’re bats!!

Or to be more precise, we have bats which fly around the school premises at night!

Henry and Olly Germany’s mum registered the school to take part in a bat survey, with some really interesting results. I hope to do some work on this with the children after half term but for now a little taste of what they found out…

Bat species detected:

Our provisional analysis of the recordings detected the following species. The numbers relate to the number of bat passes rather than the number of individual bats.

Species Total number of passes (all nights)

Barbastelle 3

Brown long-eared bat 14

Common pipistrelle 202

Daubenton’s bat 1

Noctule 2

Serotine 1

Soprano pipistrelle 48

If you would like to see a copy of the full bat survey Mrs Fowl has one and we will leave a copy in the library for children to view. We have also posted a copy of the full bat survey below.
