Learning within the Foundation subjects starts from an overarching topic area. The foundation subjects consist of the following:
*Art and Design
*Design and Technology
*PSHE, including SRE (Sex and Relationship Education)
Within each the aims are to provide the children with a broad, balanced and creative approach, where children are engaged, inspired and challenged. Where possible learning is encouraged to be cross curricular and can often learning is seen across subject areas.
Art and Design: to equip children with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create.
Design and Technology: using creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.
Geography: to inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives and equip the children with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.
History: to inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past, equipping children to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement.
Languages: to provide the foundation for children to go on and learn further languages.
Music: to engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
PSHE/ SRE: to enable children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society, including being a positive member of a multi-diverse society.
