Learning Together for Life

This group consists of children from Years 2, 3 and 4.  The learning in this classroom is both fast-paced and focused, with the intention of supporting accelerated progress.  This class also bridges the gap between Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

The adults working in this class are;
Miss E Pursglove, Class Teacher
Mrs J Lee, Teaching Assistant.

This group includes teaching and learning in Phonics, English and Mathematics and runs alongside Class 1 and Class 2 every morning.

In each subject, specific units are stripped down to the foundation building blocks and then built back up to the age related expectations to help reinforce learning for all children.

The children learn how to use a wide range of resources to support them in becoming more confident and independent learners.

Spring Term
In my group this term we have a busy start to the term, aiming to cover Fractions, Time and Money in Mathematics and some rather tricky Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation in English.  It is going to be very important that the children are reading at home and in school regularly.  If you can make just 10 minutes a day to hear your child read – this equates to 70 minutes a week! This makes a massive difference to their reading, spelling and writing ability.  You don’t have to read the whole book, just a couple of pages is enough.

I will continue to set weekly homework as this is a great opportunity for me to keep families at home up to date with the learning in school, and also a chance for the children to practice their skills.  As before, I will send work home on a Friday with the expectation that it will be back in school on Wednesday as this gives me time to mark it.  In addition, I have sent home with the Class 2 children the topic homework about Vikings.  It would be nice if your child could complete one item on the sheet.  It does ask the children to choose one activity from each category, however for the children in my group who are already completing weekly homework I will leave it to the children to decide if they would like to do more than one.

If you have any questions about your child’s learning in my class, or you would like some ideas on ways in which you can support your child’s learning at home then please catch me on the playground or make an appointment to see me before or after the school day.  I am always happy to talk to you.
