At Holy Cross Church of England Primary School, we equip our learners with the knowledge to lead a balanced, healthy lifestyle – with themes on emotions, belonging, financial capabilities, drug education, staying safe and rights and responsibilities to name a few. We tailor each lesson to the needs of our school community and respond to the changing world around us.
We have both structured and incidental lessons which help the children develop their understanding of managing feelings and emotions and understanding how different actions and situations make us feel. In EYFS this is an important part of making friends and beginning to understand social rules. We support children to recognise positive relationships and how we should behave. We begin to understand our bodies and gain more and more independence with daily routines such as toileting and mealtimes. This is important learning which prepares the children for further learning as part of the national curriculum.
We teach a whole school theme to ensure children are building on prior learning and furthering their skills and knowledge as they move through our school. We aim to scaffold our children to become independent, resilient thinkers, ready for the challenges and adventures their lives may hold.
